The Potty Party

I should preface this post with a disclaimer. Here goes: If hearing about the trials and tribulations of potty training bugs you, that’s a good sign that this blog post isn’t for you!

About three weeks ago, Maya (26 months) took her diaper off and refused to put it back on. She had been showing signs of potty training readiness for quite some time, but **I** wasn’t ready. Let’s face it: IMO, diapers are easier and **I** was being lazy.

So, I hesitated….until she got sick of waiting on me.

She stepped into her first pair of panties and (brushing hands) THAT WAS THAT!

Literally.

She has since only had a few accidents – primarily due to a little anxiety over public restrooms. Pooping on the potty wasn’t a problem. She has been completely dry during naps and overnights. Maya was DONE with diapers whether I liked it or not. Period.

A little over a week ago, I noticed that Maya was suddenly becoming resistant to pooping on the potty. Then, last Wednesday, things really started changing.

We went to the dentist and Maya did GREAT! But…she had to go potty…and the toilet at the dentist’s office has a really cool seat decorated with a rock-n-roll frog playing a rhinestone guitar.

As far as Maya was concerned, there would be NO rock-n-roll frog OR a rhinestone guitar watching her do her thing. So, she pranced around until she couldn’t hold it any longer and finally peed on the floor.

Wednesday…Thursday…Friday…no poop. Saturday…Sunday…by Sunday evening I sent Jason to the store armed with a list of weapons of mass destruction.

(No, I wasn’t going to use ALL of them, but wanted to have a little of this and a little of that on hand…just in case.)

I woke up Monday morning and made sure the schedule was clear. I fixed everyone breakfast, got myself a shower and prepared for what was to come.

And then she went. Just like that.

During this rough patch, I had resorted to bribery. I even made up a few things like “POOP FOR A POP!” and “A POO POO TATOO!!!”

So, there she is. Showing off her lollipop and tattoo.

Lollipops for EVERYONE! It’s a POTTY PARTY!

With a relieved mommy and 3 happy girls, we decided to play on the computer for a little while. Check them out :)
