PING Play-By-Play

Well…it’s done. I’m not sure what I think at this point, and it’s probably too early to declare an opinion anyway.

It delivers insulin and will help Addy maintain good control. That’s the goal. I have to keep reminding myself of that.

Somehow I can’t dwell on the other stuff.

Like how we’re going to manage her numbers at her birthday POOL party this Friday without the disconnect feature. Like the fact that the IOB information takes a minute to hunt down – it felt like an eternity when she was low this afternoon and I was trying to determine how many carbs to give her to treat the low and feed the insulin. Or the fact that she was low because I had to make some unexpected basal changes to her afternoon pattern…why, you ask? Because it only allows 12 basal changes in a 24 hour period. That might seem like a lot to some….but Cozmo allowed me to customize Addy’s settings with such great precision that I could have changed any of them every 30 minutes around the clock, if I so desired.

Anyway, like I said…it’s delivering her insulin. That’s the goal.

The day started with dropping Kaelyn and Maya off at child care. I registered them at a local preschool/daycare specifically for this special day. There wasn’t an enrollment fee AND I printed coupons off the website for a free day…so it worked out really well for us.

Kaelyn has been so incredibly excited about starting pre-school. I haven’t mustered up the courage to tell her that it won’t be in the budget for her to attend this Fall. She was thrilled to pack her backpack and proudly strut into the building this morning. I couldn’t help but to take a few pictures since she was feeling on top of the world :)

Maya did great too! She went right in and found herself a chair at the little table. They were serving breakfast and she didn’t hesitate to dive right in :)

As an added bonus, Maya didn’t have any potty accidents! I was nervous about this because she’s only been in panties for a week, but she really showed off her skills today. Great job, Maya Papaya!!!

From there, it was off to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where Jason met up with us for our PING training.

Ready to go!

She’s all hooked up!

Delivering her first bolus from the remote…

She was eating grapes and it vibrated – that gave us all quite a chuckle :)

And so a new journey begins.

PS -- Addy's BFF, Janelle, started the PING a few weeks ago. They were Cozmo transplants too. You can meet them at Leigh's new blog -- please stop by and say hello. (Leigh has 2 blogs -- this one and her crochet blog...check them out and add her to your blog roll!)

Please do tell...how are we managing blood sugars for Fridays pool party?? :) I'm already nervous, especially being the 300%basal increase!!

Thats a bummer you can only program 12 basal changes...I was looking at maddison's pattern today and it changes 14 times!! I'm so bummed for you! But YES! You will figure it out as always!

Kaelyn and Maya...how FUN! All your girls are turning into BIG girls too darn fast!

One good thing about the OmniPod - you can change basals in 30 minute blocks, so up to 48 of them in a day.

Not that it would work to stick that giant pod on little bitty Addy, but I'm liking that for Meghan. Still trying to program everything in, in advance of our training in 2 weeks, and still waiting on the upgraded version to arrive via FedEx.....

Would be so much easier to just keep the Coz....sigh.

Bright side. Looking for the bright side - like remote-control boluses or a tubeless pump that a stubborn pre-teen is excited to use....

I am just a Gma and no expert pump person. Good luck!
